FAQ’s

How long does it take to complete the Mastery course?

It takes about a month to finish all the modules in the course. However, students don’t need to “complete” the course: they can pick and choose which modules they actually need in order to improve their score. Think of it more as a membership than a course that must be completed in a set timeframe.

What is the difference between the Mastery course and the standalone question packs?

The Mastery Course also offers video lessons and other resources, whereas the question packs, though some offer video lessons too, are more targeted at drilling practice questions so that these questions become like second nature. The standalone packs offer something sorely missing from this market: bulk high-difficulty R&W practice questions at an affordable price.

Why is it important for SAT tutors to also be able to write practice SAT questions?

On the old paper SAT, the passages were essays and articles taken from the real world (e.g., an essay from Thomas Jefferson), not original writing from the College Board, as is the case on the new test. Also there were roughly ten questions per passage, whereas now each question on the digital test gets its own distinct passage.

Once tutors and students run out of the College Board practice questions, it is hard to find questions elsewhere that feel just like the real thing. To address this gap, tutors can write their own questions, but it takes a while to get good at this. Kyle spent a year and a half at Khan Academy focusing almost exclusively on mastering this skill.

Why is Kyle’s question-writing experience at Khan Academy so impressive? Can’t anybody write SAT questions with AI?

First, it’s important to note that Kyle does write SAT questions with AI, and he developed an AI-assisted workflow at Khan Academy. He even gave multiple presentations on this workflow to managers at the company. In other words, Kyle’s unique domain expertise, in addition to his cutting-edge ability to use AI to write SAT questions, puts him in a league of his own.

Second, AI still makes a lot of mistakes, and unless you know the test inside and out, it’s really hard to get AI to write high-difficulty SAT R&W questions for you. On the other hand, tutors who aren’t using AI to assist question writing at all aren’t keeping up with the times.

Why doesn’t Kyle also tutor the Math section?

Kyle believes that you need to learn from the best mentors in order to achieve the best results. Usually, the best mentors are specialists who can “lock in” on their craft while generalists prioritize breadth over depth. When parents ask him for SAT Math tutor recommendations, Kyle recommends math-only tutors for this same reason.

Kyle worked for years as a generalist educator, teaching Social Studies, Spanish, ESL, ELA, IB Global Politics, and other tests like the TOEFL and ACT, and he takes this diverse experience into the current phase of his career as a specialized SAT R&W expert.

Why do so many SAT tutors tutor both Math and R&W?

The real reason so many tutors tutor both sections is not necessarily because those tutors are smarter than math-only or R&W-only tutors; rather, it’s often due to the financial realities of operating a tutoring company. Companies can only allocate so many resources, so when they hire people, they need to get the most out of them. Most small and mid-level tutoring companies simply don’t have the budget to hire SAT Math or SAT R&W specialists. Kyle, as a solopreneur, isn’t limited by the constraints of managing a company with several employees. All of his time and energy goes into perfecting his craft.

In 2025, 15,000 more students achieved 700+ scores on SAT Math than on R&W. Why does Kyle think this is?

Kyle’s theory is that because so much of the SAT tutoring space is dominated by tutors who tutor both sections but whose strong suit is ultimately Math, you see more students excelling in Math than R&W. If there were more true R&W specialists, Kyle is confident you’d see higher R&W scores.

Also, SAT Math practice questions are easier to write with AI; by contrast, SAT R&W questions can be brutal to write, even with AI, so few tutors endure the tedium and challenge of writing high-difficulty R&W questions. More practice questions on the Math side means more practice, and ultimately, higher results.

Is it an advantage that Kyle doesn’t also tutor the Math section?

The digital SAT has only existed since 2023, and the R&W is much different than the R&W on the former paper test. This means that tutors have only had a few years to familiarize themselves with the new test, which has 11 different question types and many subtypes among them. Every moment that one of Kyle’s competitors spends teaching Math is a moment Kyle spends developing an increasingly granular understanding of R&W.
